It’s Sunday NIGHT, Nerdlings! That means the big SDCC 2014 announcements have all been made, stars have been blinded by flashes, and it’s time for the poor staff to clean up all the glitter, spandex, and whatever that is by NBC’S Hannibal booth… *Shudders*
The star power coming out of SDCC 2014 was so epic last night they created a White Dwarf and the cosplayers leveled up all the Nerdy trophies for Achievement in Awesome. My feeds have been ridiculously difficult to keep up with in the past few days as I tried to swipe quickly through Twitter, Tumbler, Instagram, and websites to get the best Nerdy news. Since it’s impossible to go through it all, I’ll just do a run down of the things I’m most excited to see.
We finally got our first look at Wonder Woman. Look at her! She is an AMAZON! She is sooooo not taking anyone’s crap. She looks hot (both figurative and literal) and is about to serve up some JUSTICE!
While I still feel some concern about what the actual movie will be like, I have to say, Concept and Costuming got it right. It was pretty funny to see all my feeds go nuts about Gal Gadot and then throw in a nod to the boys, Batman and Superman. DC’s top story on their website is all about Diana Prince and I’m please as punch to see it. Behold, your new Wonder Woman!
Marvel has been throwing news at us all weekend starting with our first official introduction to Agent Carter.
The Marvel Television panel hosted Hayley Atwell and several of the creators, including Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, for Marvel’s newest series, Agent Carter. The show will begin in 1946 before SHIELD was founded and like her One-Shot, we’ll see Peggy adapting to life after WWII. The show hopes to portray the harsh realities of a post war world, which many women faced after the men returned. Skilled and competent women were displaced and expected to return to their roles in the home. Peggy Carter will have to fight to find her place in a man’s world but she’s not alone. Peggy will definitely encounter other women facing the same dilemma. What remains to be seen are what choices they will make when faced with stepping back into old ideas or trying to fit into an unappealing future. I’m really hoping to see some seriously conflicted heroines and grey area, badass lady villains.
From the big Hall H Marvel event, we got a lot of star power and some footage from Ant Man but the huge news once again was regarding another lady. Evangeline Lilly will be joining the Ant Man cast as Hank Pym’s daughter, Hope: AKA The Wasp.
I was so pumped to hear that she’s going to be in this. I have loved her in everything she’s done so far. I wonder how long it will take AO3 to make a Wasp/Hawkeye story? Corey Stoll is also joining to portray bad guy Yellow Jacket for some added drama. All reports say Michael Douglas was charming and Paul Rudd a bit shell shocked.
Then Avengers: Age of Ultron took over and craziness ensued. We got an image of Vision and Ultron himself along with flashes from each character, both old and new. Newsarama.com had a great play by play of the panel here. Websites are starting to upload video of the panel so you might see it before long. I got this one from the vine… Shhhhh
Then there were these guys. I loved these candid photos that popped up all weekend long.
Josh Brolin came out with the Infinity Gauntlet and proved that Goonies might not ever say die, but they sometimes do become evil overlords. His rumored involvement was confirmed with Marvel style.
Then there were these guys…
Somehow, they got the green light for a sequel before the release of the first one. Is that a MCU first? I. can. not. wait. for next weekend. Who else is going?
Finally, this morning the Marvel booth added a prop. Not nice, guys.
Damn heartbreaking is what I call this. Marvel! What did you DO?
Side stepping from Marvel for a moment to share these guys, or rather, this guy!
I assume Lilly was hanging with her new friends during this shoot, but this pic is still adorbs! I’m excited to see the last installment of The Hobbit. I love all of those books and universe so much. I am in constant awe at how Peter and Co. have breathed life into that world and all those characters. I have been so thrilled to see each installment become even more grand than my imagination ever could make them and the ending is so… wait, Peter Jackson wouldn’t dare! Would he?
Moving on to a happier subject…
Game of Thrones has announced their 5th Season’s lineup otherwise known as More People to Kill! This season brings one of my very favorite houses from the desserts of Dorn. The House Martell’s words are ‘Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken’ if that gives any indication of how forgiving they’ll be of poor Oberyn’s fate. Plus! We get the SANDSNAKES!!! Winteriscoming.net has the whole scoop here. Pretty awesome talent if you ask me.
I can not wait to see those ladies bring it. Watch out, crazy bitches of Westeros. Some new contenders for the crazy crown have entered the ring!
This was a quiet announcement amidst all the insanity going on at SDCC but a must have in a galaxy, not so far away.
As a small girl I knew that I could grow up to be either Linda Cater or Carrie Fisher. Talk about GIRL POWER! Princess Leia Organa gets a brand new comic next March and we should all go out to buy it so they make all of the Princess Leia comics ever. Creators Mark Waid and Terry Dodson plan to address the biggest question in my mind. What’s a princess to do once her whole world has literally been destroyed? The series debuts March 2015.
Lastly, I saw hundreds of amazing Cosplayers, all of whom make me want to cry because they are so dedicated and beautiful. There was one that really stood out today. Anyone who brings their own minions instantly wins everything.
There are many more things that I’m going to be sifting through in the coming days. Thanks SDCC! You’ve given us a lot to sort through and so much to look forward to in the coming, days, weeks, months, years!
